Dr. Karl Baehr is Director of Business & Entrepreneurial Studies at Emerson College in Boston. Karl splits his time between EST and MST, and is a "Naturalized" New Mexican having made his home in the Land of Enchantment for more than 20 years. An admitted serial entrepreneur Karl maintains his efforts in both the applied and academic worlds.

Karl’s work as an entrepreneur spans nearly three decades. He began his career in media in 1978 as a radio personality at 92K in Nacogdoches, TX, ultimately winding through programming and station management in Houston, Albuquerque, and other markets in the southwestern US. In 2009 his Business Development firm Knowledge Based Evolution (KBE) will celebrate 25 years of assisting entrepreneurs in getting their companies started-up or turned-around. To date KBE with its associates have completed more than $150 Million in transactions primarily for start-up and early-stage companies. Karl has also started several of his own companies along the way including Actual Radio Measurement, Inc. (ARM) for which Karl holds a patent for the revolutionary radio research technology designed for the company. He remains an active entrepreneur as President and Principal of KBE where he works with a limited number of clients each year, and as Managing Director of InterTerra New Media Group where his current projects include efforts in publishing, entertainment, radio and television programming.

Karl came to Emerson College in 2004 to architect a new program in entrepreneurial studies for the College. The Emerson Experience in Entrepreneurship, the program known as E3, has helped redefine what entrepreneurial studies should be at institutions focused on creative studies. In SEP of 2007 he was recognized as one of the Top Professors of Entrepreneurship in the country by Fortune Magazine. Karl’s work in E3 was recognized by Boston Mayor Thomas Menino recently. Calling E3, "A revolution in entrepreneurial education," Mayor Menino declared April 21, 2007, the day of the 2nd Annual E3 Exposition, "E3 Day in the City of Boston!" You can read the full text of the Mayoral Proclamation here.

In September 2008 Emerson College launched the Minor in Business in Communication and the Arts. The program, also of Baehr’s holistic-business curriculum design, is already at capacity. Both Business & Entrepreneurial Studies (B&E) were featured in the Spring 2008 Edition of Expressions Magazine.

He has contributed to several books including 3Principals: Towards a Future in Peru and Latin America, and most recently The Next Paradigm: Common Sense for This Generation a work of words and music. In addition to his contributions to the book, Karl served as Executive Producer of TNP Music Project which included 22 songs, recorded by 20 bands from around the world. Karl has authored numerous academic and professional papers, and a nationally syndicated magazine column focusing on issues of broadcasting programming and management. Karl's doctoral work at Regent University focused on the evolution of a new way to effectively measure media use in a converged media environment. His graduate work focused on the Diffusion of Innovations, or how new ideas come to be adopted. This work was completed at the University of New Mexico with influential scholar Everett Rogers.
